Replacing rim tape

  1. My latest puncture has been caused by the edge of an eyelet wearing through
    the rim tape and subsequently the inner tube. I have bought some velox rim
    tape to replace the stuff the wheels came with; this is mavic stuff I think,
    fairly thin cloth. apart from any tips on how to fit it - which end to start
    etc. do I remove the old stuff first (as I suspect) or put the new over the
    top?

    It's normal practice to remove old stuff.
