Cyclometer and temperature

  1. It seems that my cyclometer changes with the temperature. During winter it
    would record a mile at .9 and with warmer weather it is recording a mile as
    1.1. Or is it my imagination.

    Imagination. Temperature can not affect the odometer. It can
    theoreticaly affect the speedometer but for a discrepency that large,
    you would see the clock gaining or losing an hour or more per day.

    Did you change tires or wheels or batteries or anything?

    Hi,
    We've had some issues with our wireless computers not working correctly in
    sub-freezing weather. The problem seemed to be in the sender. Changing
    the battery didn't help. My theory (which was unverified) was that
    something contracted and caused it not to function. The same computer
    worked fine when it warmed up. It did this multiple times. I'm wondering
    whether you could be seeing a partial symptom of what we did- it missed some
    cycles in cold weather. The overage in warm weather could just be the wrong
    size set in the computer.
    This advice is probably worth what you paid for it. 🙂

    That's *very* odd. I had two that were temp-senistive in that they
    would not function reliably below 65F, and not at all below 55F, but
    that's a different issue.

    Imagination. Temperature can not affect the odometer. It can

    Clock chip wouldn't enter into the distance calculation anyway; that's
    not time-sensitive. Only instantaneous and average speed would be
    affected by a temp-sensitive clock pulse variance.

    Batteries lose output when they get cold. Maybe the design of the
    wireless sender was marginal, so that it wouldn't work reliably when
    the battery was weak (i.e. cold).
