The train tickets are bought. Panniers packed. Off to Ireland on Sunday
for a weeks touring.
Other than tickets I've not booked anything else. The plan is a
ride up the west coast doing 40-70 miles a day depending on weather,
coffee stops, scenery, pubs and beer. In any order.
Never having been to Ireland before I'll be testing out my
youth hostel touring theory. Which is that you can't go far wrong
basing a tour on the bits of a country where the hostels are.
For example Scotlands hostels are in the highlands, the
borders/southern uplands and grampians and the major city centres. But
not in Cumbernauld, Motherwell Easterhouse etc.
My hostel location theory is that when arriving in a town
you don't know to find the hostel look for the biggest hill and it will
be at the top. So I will combine both theories for a happy week
pedaling.

Be sure to drink plenty of energy fluid while you are there to keep your
strength up - in that part of the world it's black in colour with a creamy
white head and is best administered by the pint ;-)
