  1. Hi there,

My feet naturally point out to the sides quite far when my knees are pointing straight forward. I
used to cycle with my toes pointing straight ahead, which meant my knees were pointing inwards. I
stopped when I realised I was damaging myself - the pain in my knees has gone now.

However, by keeping my knees straight, I have to point my toes out. This is a problem because the
pedals on my Giant road racer point straight forwards. I am currently cycling with my feet postioned
so that the pedals are braced against the inside of the arch of my feet (ie halfway between the
ankle and the toes) - it is impossible for me to cycle by putting the ball of my feet on the pedal,
as the cogs and gear mechanism will be in the way of my heel.

Is there any way my technique can be improved in this area?

    Thanks a lot, Darren.

If toes pointing outward is the best position for you how about pedels with extra long spindles?
Speedplay Frogs have several extra long spindles (designed for big shoes). This combined with cleat
    positioning may help.

  3. Look into Speed Play X series pedals. They are expensive but allow your feet to float to their
natural position with your knees straight. They take some time to get use to them but when you do
    there no going back.

Thanks for the advice. I'm no pro - only a student with a budget and a debt, but I'll remember the
names for when I have moneys to play with
    🙂

    Darren.
