I will be in Atlanta Ga. June 6-10 for a class and was curious if any
locals had recommendations for trails to run or hike . I will be staying in
the Perimeter Mall area if that helps at all.
Thanks,
Mike

Any trails that lead AWAY will do fine.

How far do you want to run? What kind of terrain?
My favorite running trail in Atlanta is the Kennesaw Mountain National
Battlefield Park It's about a 20 mile drive from Perimeter Mall.

It is well worth the drive. I don't get there often since it's on the
other side of town, but you'll be a little closer. Kennesaw is in the
far Northwest suburbs. It's nicely shaded, so you can keep a little more
cool in the summer. There is one loop that is around 18 miles. If you're
not used to hill running, take it easy. There are some tough hills.
There is a trail that will avoid the worst of them. You can ask at the
visitors center and pick up a free map. The trails are mostly hard
packed dirt and stone. The trails are strictly runners, hikers, and
horses (no bicycles).

There are several trail heads where you can start your run. Check the
above link for details. It really depends on how far you want to drive
and how far you want to run once you get there.
The Silver Comet Trail

http://www.trailexpress.com/silvercomet/maps.php
This is an old converted railway. You can basically run for up to 60
miles round trip on this. Eventually it will connect with Alabama's
Chief Lagida Trail. So if you want a softer surface, you probably don't
want to go here. If you don't mind the hard surface, it's not a bad
trail. It's mostly asphalt and concrete. On nice weekends it can be
rather crowded with cyclists and walkers.
