extreme. Especially if you have camping gear with you. Just set up and
wait for the next low tide. You would think an "outdoor pursuits
instructor" would know that was the best course of action.

I'm very surprised. Crossing a fast river that's only knee-deep is
extremely difficult - your legs just don't go where you want them to!
Crossing a tidal flow that's getting deeper by the second is insane.

about 30-45 deg on the downstream/current side of you.
