There's the companies definition of beta testing, then there's mine
:-)

Normally I don't upgrade applications for a couple of months after a
release has been launched.

Not that I think it matters a great deal as I've never been caught by
a JavaScript virus in ~12 years using the internet.

I run Norton Anti Virus Auto protect enabled. If I get a virus/trojan NAV
pounces on it before any damage is done :-)

Only if it recognises it though. AV software relies on definition
files, and even if you autoupdate daily the fact remains that a new
virus has a finite time in general circulation before the folk at
Symantec will have built its signature in.

AV software does *not* make you immune to virus and trojan attacks,
though it does significantly reduce their threat.

Also don't forget Symantec only routinely update the Live Update files
on a Wednesday - although now and then they will post an urgent update
on other days, usually Monday sometimes Friday. For day by day
updates you have to manually go the the securityresponse.symantec.com
website and use the Intelligent Updates.

I can live with that. At worst I will have a virus for 6 days. before I
know about the virus. Unless I spot something odd happening.

I also have a rather paranoid backup system.

Absolute Safety in *anything* does not exist. Getting up in the morning
has risks, staying in bed other risks.
