If you rub the inside of a banana peal along a chain that will make an excellent dry lube with good
water resistant properties.

Why? 10w-whatever is ALWAYS available! It even comes with a metal stick to dribble it on the chain.
A car won't miss the 1/2 oz. you need for the chain.

Not so much a chain lube, but when I install a new ceramic bushing pulley or clean out an old one, I
use a quality (drafting) pencil and blacken all the acting surfaces (graphite lube!)

It was just after I had moved into my dorm. All I had was veg oil from the floor kitchen. And nobody
carried motor oil in their dorm room.
