  1. Today I are been mainly riding round Swinley Forest with Michael and
Pete and the lad next door. Brilliant! Perfect weather, enough mud
for some fun but not too much. Pete (8) got his bike thoroughly
plastered, he's really coming along a treat and can now cruise at
12mph on the flat no trouble. He made it up most of the hills.
Michael and Adam both tried some mildly technical offroad, and we all
had a go at some easy singletrack. Fabulous fun, and the total price
of admission was £1.50 because kids are free. Bargain!

Today I are been mostly acting as chauffeur to take Nathan to a time trial.
Up at 5am... Beautiful morning, lots of bunnies playing in the hedgerows.
Got to almost the HQ & the heavens opened. It chucked it down. Yet Nathan
did a new PB, 42 seconds faster than his previous best. Go figure! Got
home, sun was glorious, took Nathan's wet kit out of the bag & poured the
water out of his race shoes & washed his grimy kit... This is the kid who
    doesn't like off-roading as it's too dirty ;-)

    Cheers, helen s

    Heheheh, Mud-Plugging rules. 😉

I now can't keep up with my twelve year old ... though I can easily beat the
    nine year old.

Scary, isn't it? And you know damn well that in three years time
they'll both be waiting for you at the top and shouting "Come on Dad!"

I hope so anyway. What is the purpose in growing up if not to be
bigger, stronger or faster than those who were formerly all-powerful?

It was great to be in a place where I could let Michael and his friend
have some independence without worrying too much about it myself.
They set off on the little trails through the woods, you could see a
flash of yellow every now and then and know they were OK, but they
were experiencing great adventure. Being a dad is the best job in the
    world. Sometimes...

LOL, I just read back how I posted, and doesn't it seem such a shallow
victory 'beating' a nine year old, but still being proud of it.

Until 'the wife' sees the colour of the clothes ... But yes, Dad, Daddy, Old
Man, Old Fart even, is a great title.

We often ride in Clumber park, where there are gentle trails for the
littlest, then go to Sherwood Pines Forest park where there is a 'proper'
off-road one way course that has trails for all abilities. The eldest, of
course, now insists he can do the Black runs. Invariably though, he can.
    I'm so proud. 😉

You need to get permission from your partner before you can get to the
    application form stage ;-)
