I know we have crossed posts on road safety before but in this case I am
in full agreement with you. The only comment I would make is that your
letter should be less personalised. The inclusion of the "I know..."
"Having read..." type phrase makes the letter the opinion of one where
the opposite implication or none could carry considerably more weight.

Might you include that in the controversy over deaths and injuries
studies may suggest that the wearing of cycle helmets might lead to a
minor impact causing a rotational head injury or death etc?

All our bike helmets went to the bin, as of Christmas last year, and dd
no longer wears her horse hat on her bike. Four up to you.

Grammar - complaint 2, part c; robustly extended do cover performance
(should be 'TO', not 'do'😉

Jeez, that's *appalling* !

Even is you did have some magic helmet that could protect the head, if you
'bounced' a human head off anything with enough force to shatter the skull, you
would most definitely break the neck that was supporting it with the backlash -
in fact, I suspect that the head would come clean off!

I live local and have heard the advert and can't really believe it was ever

I hesitate to cross swords with you, but I thought that a riding hat was
a good idea.
I'm not a horse rider, but it is a long way up on top of a horse,
and horse riding helmets are hard-shell types, as far as I know.
Also horse riding helmets are not intended for car impacts - they're
they are intended for impacts from falling off the horse.

I stand to be corrected by the group.

I know nothing about horse riding, but those hats always *look* next to useless.

I would have throught that if you fell (or were thrown) from something as high
as a horse with sufficient force to damage your skull, and landed at such an
angle that one of those hats would protect you, you would break your neck
anyway.

I *had* assumed that the horsey set knew what they were doing, but having read
some of Zaphod's works, and some of the references therein, I now wonder.

After all, I can see the logic:
