I can believe it! Only yesterday my twoyear old banged his head a on one of
his wooden trains. If only he'd been protected by Thudguard(tm), he wouldn't
now be one of the walking wounded (well, partly dented).

Well so far we have asthma from too clean homes (lack of exposure to
bugs/dust/dirt allergens), leukemia from not mixing with other kids
(lack of exposure to viral and bacterial infections), obesity and
coronary disease (from lack of "dangerous" exercise such as cycling).
What will we get from lack of exposure to banging your head while young?

LOL! You are a kind man, Sandy, and I will convey this to the Powers
that Be. Pete's birthday is in January, which is not quite so
suitable for velodrome parties, but I'm sure we will be doing more of
that and the idea of the kids' penny farthing is too attractive to
turn down :-) I have considered holding his party later in the year,
a sort of "official birthday" inna Queen stylee. There is a family
precedent for this: my uncle Jimmy only realised when he went for
National Service that his birthday was in January not April. Gran had
decided, bless her, that it was too close to Christmas.

I remember a 'party' being held there in the mid 70s.
It celebrated the end of the track season and we had some games and food
- and something a little stronger ;-)

The 20 mile ride home on track bikes in the dark was 'interesting' ;-)

Nathan is into rock/heavy metal/punk type music, as is many a young teenage
boy. He has recognised a benefit of cycling, specifically time trialling.
Indeed, from keeping his head up over long periods whilst time trialling, he
has developed strong neck muscles, he says, which are of immense beenfit
whilst head-banging. Seems he can do it longer without ricking his neck than
his non-time trialling mates ;-)
