I've known about the "Bic pen trick" for opening a Krytonite tubular lock for well over a year, but it just dawned on me that I'd probably be able to exchange the relatively worthless, virtually indestructable, piece of metal for something that could actually be used as a lock. Not a painful process at all. You just go to their website, look up your lock, find the substitute, and fill out the form. They email you a prepaid UPS label and you just box up your lock with at least one of the keys and send it back. Supposed to get a new lock within 3-5 weeks. Of course most people probably already know about this, but thought I'd mention it.

Just a note to say that yes, it does work. They replaced my pair of K locks, including one > 15 yrs. old that was getting a bit stiff and was up for replacement anyway.

You missed out teh four-month-plus wait, at least in teh UK. I registered in October, and finally got my lock about a month ago. I'm not aware of anyone in teh UK who's had teh exchange in under four months.

Sorry to hear about the wait for you Brits. Was this a while ago? Recently I recieved 4 new locks, 11 days after I first heard about the lock exchange.
