  1. Ok after 20 years and 15K miles it’s finally time to get rid of my Bike Nashbar Race SIS. Back then my wife thought I was crazy (still does) to save two years for the $800 to buy it.
I ride mostly for fitness now, about 75 miles a week averaging about 21 mph on relatively flat ground. I also do about two triathlons a year. I’ve tried three bikes so far, a Trek 5.9, it felt ok but I’m not sure I like the feel of carbon (maybe you get use to it). Last week I rode a Litespeed Tuscany, which rode nice and a Vortex, which I loved. I like the stiffness of the Vortex tie frame and the Dura Ace felt crisp. The Vortex was about $6800 dollars, which is a little bit more than I want to spend. Which other bikes should I try?

    Thanks for your help,
    Rich

You should try building a SOMEC. They are awesome and you won't have to spend $6,800. =) You can see them at www.token-usa.com

  3. I think Dura Ace is probably overkill for the kind of riding you're doing. There are a lot of other quality Ti frames out there that you can get built up with Ultegra/105 somewhere in the $3k-4k price range.

  4. Lightspeed Ghisallo w/ Campy Record Carbon group and Chris King headset. 😎

Guess it might be a little pricey though. Hmmmm...

  5. Actually, to be perfectly serious, has anyone tried the Supergo carbon frame bike? It looks like a decent deal, and I'm SURE Supergo isn't making the frame themselves. It's probably a Giant or something like that.

    http://www.supergo.com/profile.cfm?LPROD_ID=25913&lsubcat_id=7618&lcat_id=7604&referpage=

Carbon frame, fork, and full Ultegra 10-sp drivetrain for $1650. There's a triple version as well.

    Might be worth looking at.

Looks inviting, but I've never heard of it before. Anyone tried one.

Is that the one called scatante CFR? I've never ridden one but folks who have 'em are OK with them. I've heard they are made in a shop that also make Kestrels, but don't have certainty on that... even so, no guarantees for quality of craftmanship, ride, or even the kind of CF used in the lay up. If you have access to the physical Supergo shops, might be worth a trip.

Yeah, the CFR is the one. Hmmmm...

  9. I can't wait to get old and have that kind of money to throw around.🙂

Yeah, Ironic isn’t, when you have the motor you have no money, when you have money the motor is getting old.

  11. How about a Pinarello, or a Seven if you want Ti? Or try a Calfee if you want to try another Carbon bike. I have a Fondriest Carb Level (Alum with Carb forks and seat stays). I like the feel of Alum. I weigh @ 175 and the Ti just felt too noodly.

Sounds like Titanium is for you (nice choice BTW 🙂

Now , check out other Ti frame builders, there diamentions , and there prices and see which is the best match for you. What are your measurments BTW ? What length top tube have you been riding ? With this info, I might be able to make a few good recommendations for you. :o

Assuming you men $8000 not $800 judging by the bikes you're talking about. Why not go custom?

$800 was the Nasbar 20 years ago, the current budget is about $4000-$5000.

  15. When I recently walked into my local bike shop the Litespeed Tuscay-Ultegra 10 was on sale for $800 off, so I took the plunge. I had them upgrade the wheels to the Ksyriums that were on the Vortex. It’s not as stiff as the Vortex but It is a more comfortable ride. It feels faster but I haven’t transferred my computer over yet. I lost about 10 Lbs. from my old steel bike…even my wallet is lighter. Thanks for everyone’s help.

  17. You want to get a great bike on the cheap check out Litespeed's used bike store. preownedbikes.compreownedbikes.com also look at their eBay store. The inventory is sometimes different.

I hooked up with a basically new Litespeed Niota mountain bike for a little over half of retail. They have a lot of nice road bikes on there too.

  18. You know if you aren't a brand-[censored] the off brand Ti frames are every bit as good as the name brand bling-bling ones.

You can buy the Sandvik Ti frames for about $550 on eBay. I've ride a 17 year old one that is fantastic. Thing about Ti is once you peel the stickers off they are all the same. 🙂

whatever... 🙄 I have seen you post some stupid things, but this takes the cake.

Everyone gave some good ideas. I'm at the point of my life where my time is one of my most valuable possessions. A good bike shop adds a lot of value for me. Admittedly a name brand is also a consideration because I don’t have the time or expertise to ferret out the wheat from the chaff.

    Thanks again,
    Rich
