Looking to spend under £500, some front suspension would be nice,
would prefer not too heavy. Don't need anything too funky, just want
a good quality bike that'll get me over mud, gravel, bumpy tracks, etc.
What's the best I can get for under 500?
Thanks to everybody who posted their advice on this. I was feeling quite
inclined towards the Specialized Rockhopper (you know how that upper price
limit creeps up and up the more nice shiny bikes you see... 🙂
However the LBS deals Trek but not Specialized, so I went in there
thinking I'll try the Trek 4500 here and probably go on somewhere else to
look at the Rockhopper ... which turned out not to be necessary - the 4500
was nice but they also had a 6500 in a good size for me, which I liked
enough to buy. There's no womens specific version of that model, but still
a good fit, and they're fitting a shorter handlebar stem, better saddle
and SPD pedals. So I managed to hit my £500 price limit (well, plus
extras 🙂 I'll be picking it up later today, yay, shiny new bike!
