  1. There's an old guy in a wheelchair who sits at the bottom of the hill in
High St Kew opposite the cemetary and waves to passing cyclists. I've
seen him a few times and always wave back but was wondering if anyone
has ever stopped and spoken to him? I figured he's either a bit of a
nutbag or maybe an ex-cyclists or both. The fcat that he's at the bottom
of the hill makes me suspect everyone would just hoot past.

It not just cyclists. He waves at trams too. Possibly just someone who
    didn't plan his retirement well.

    "Hmm...what to do today?"

  3. I have wondered that myself! He seems a friendly fellow when I have seen him on weekends, but I haven't spoken to him... perhaps he just waves to everybody?

I ride that way often, and to be honest I've never noticed him.. then again
on my commute, I only see what's about 10m directly in front of me.. oh,
and sometimes a passing dutch and/or jazz..

    cheers,

Tee hee, there was a guy like that along Samford Rd at Enoggera. I ran
past him a few times, he's a definite nutbag though, and just a wee bit
    scary.

I keep spotting people on that road (usually going the other way) and
wondering if they're anyone from here.

yeah, I see him quite regularly. So often that he tells me off if he hasnt seen me for a few days 😄

I always mean to stop and chat one day but as you said its at the bottom of a hill with another one coming up and the loss of momentum (especially if on the tail of a bus 😄) is too enticing.
I assume he's a sometime resident of the elderly care place (ugly single level brown place behind all the shrubbery there) a she's not there all year round and its a short term place for those not coping too well.

  10. he's been a little more irregular of late... used to be out there every day last year but i don't see him anywhere nearly as often as i used to... shame - he's one of those nice 'traditions' on a daily commute.. A bit like running the Kew Junction gauntlet... 🙂

i've noticed too on reading these posts that we must all be running into each other along that route. feel free to say hi to me if you come across a guy on a green rigid mtb with TT bars. Must put more thought into the a.b. bike sticker idea..

    Worse, he hit on me.

Actually, that's not really worse, is it. I have a mate who got peed on
outside a restaurant. She thought the sprinkler system had kicked in, but
    then noticed it was warm...

I live right round the corner and chat to him often. Lovely guy, but he seems to be discerning on who he waves to. Some cars/bikes just fly past, then others get the wave...weird.

Seen him a couple of times last year on Saturday mornings as well. He'd be there at 6:30 am in the morning. He'd wave and I'd wave back. Haven't come across him for a long while now.

Hey I live around the corner too - if you see me (touring bike with
full mudguards or yellow road bike), let me know!
