I'm trying to mount a Hope XC4 disk brake caliper to a pair of RockShox SID forks. However I'm having problems with alignment of the rotor in the caliper such that the rotor is rubbing on the pads. I read in the instructions that fitting is a trial an error job, whereby you have to fit spacers unitil you get it right. The problem I have is that I need to take material off the mounts in order to shift the caliper in the right direction. I've filed the mounts down a little which has made the situation better but more is required. However I'm not sure I should be filing my forks and don't want to stuff them up completely. Has anyone had experience of this? and whats the best way of solving the problem?
Magura makes a milling tool that should be available for better shops to use for you(the tool is $100 or so). In this particular case, it is best left to a trained and equipped eye, since overmilling would certainly be a bad thing but easy to do with normal grinding/filing means.
