Meat is supposed to be bad for us, right? And, soy is supposed to be good?
Well, check out the latest addition to the 'meatless burger' department: Weston President's Choice "The World's Best Meatless Burger"
Go to the USDA - their 'soyburger' (they only list one, no brand name) has 3.34g total lipids per 100 calories, of which 0.40g are saturated. This PC creation not only has four times that amount of saturated fat, but has 1.1g transfats in addition :-( And, it has some cholesterol, which means there are animal products in it.
The only bright spot is that the organic section of our local Loblaws refuses to carry it - it's only stocked in the meat department.
Soy has a high potassium content, causing constipation. And one I've heard, but am not sure about, is that soy causes one to produce more estrogen. Anyone else heard this? Watch out which vegetable oil is used. Some vegetable oils come from soybeans.
