Lance switched off after the 6th win in 2004.
He wont win this year , but he never stood a chance after breaking the record imho.

When I return to the US it will be just like it was when I started cycling ten years ago 😄

I knew that when LA announced his retirement all the hangers on and try hards would drop him like a hot potato. But within hours of the announcement?! That's too funny. Good riddance LA.

I went through this same thing during the Lemond years. I got into cycling around the time of the '84 Olympics and there was a little cycling boom, then Greg and a bigger boom, then by 1991 mountain biking took over and roadies were a very rare breed once again. Lance definitely caused a big boom though and I think this one will last longer.

As long as you don't show up at the group ride with your Trek repliracer complete with USPS or Discovery kit and [censored] if the speed goes over 18mph avg(and of course be dropped when over 20 🙄 ), you are entitled to look down upon me 😉 ... At least for a few more years until you decide to start riding a recumbant because your neck/back/hips/etc. can't take a real bike anymore. :p

What about a poster who doesn't, and can't, ride? I can't ride any bike, period. Sometimes it's about the analysis, not the experience of bike riding. 😄

That's about the time I started,to stay in shape for skiing in the off season.
I rode a Trek 460 before most people had even heard of Trek.
Of course I completely wore out an old Huffy before that but that was not very serious riding.I remember riding and listening to the olympic results on a set of headphones.
I never wore a helmet back then for I was invincible.

I still maintain that Lance may get into promoting new cycling events in the US.

I wish Mr Armstrong a happy retirement.

Maybe it will be easier for me to score a used Trek road bike from some local who will lose interest after this year...

We share the same disdain for poseurs... I just don't add the age factor. There are plenty of 20-somethings out there in Lancewear as well as the codgers. And I'm not going to show up for your group ride if you ride that slowly. Vio?

Sorry dude, but it doesn't matter how fast you ride, unless you get or once got a paycheck from USPS, if you wear the jersey you are a poseur.

Touché. I didn't mean that as a self-righteous holier than thou comment... I am a poseur too when I don my '02 Saeco kit (well, I never wear it)... Just don't have any illusions as to what you are doing when you wear the team race kit of a team you don't or never raced for.

In all honesty I don't know how it is in Europe, but in the US and in Brazil most amateur racers wear their team jerseys or some plain jersey, in rotation with maybe a few poseur jerseys that have been accumulated over the years by well-meaning gift givers, swag at races, etc.

Being a poseur isn't a bad thing necessarily and I didn't mean it that way. But if you have the team bike and the kit, well then you have passed being a poseur and have become a dork... What would you think about a guy you see on the freeway driving a 3-series with Montoya's F1 Williams stickers all over his car? 🙄

Hey if roadies can't be snobby anymore, then I am going back to Mtn bikes. Maybe the 99ers will find a new hero to imitate with the demise of LA. Yes I am just joking...mostly.

Yep, this subject has been done twice here, if I remember correctly.
The horse has been killed beaten then cloned and killed again.
I am just grateful that ugly people wear clothes at all.
