I used to get over 150 on brain.com until they started becoming too
obnoxious. This site let me finish then tried to sell me an on line
college program. I also look at the HTML source code before I <click> on
anything like that since I do know how to program a redirect to click on
one thing and be sent somewhere else. I also have about 150MB of
firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-everything else when I am on
line. I don't think anything is going to get past the line of defense I
have up.

have our kids doings Exercise problems, textbook problems, puzzle
problems, and game problems. All to push their brains into LOGICAL
THINKING.

Schools are teaching the methods, techniques, formulas, strategies, and
specific information needed to solve all these problems and pass
standardized tests. We are destroying the creative potential in
children.

To succeed in the real world we need logical/creative thinking methods.
We are destroying creativity in the schools. We are taking away the
arts. We are creating little logical robots who will not color outside
the box. If they do color out of the box, some shrink will put them on
medication.

If Art, Music, dance, and creative expression leave the public school
system, I can't imagine what the future holds. We will have a society
of high IQ's boring each other to death trying to spout their knowledge
and impress each other. There is nothing as boring as a pompous
intellectual who likes to listen to himself speak. AND YOU KNOW YOU
KNOW SOME!!!!!

Live, laugh, love, dance, think outside the box, take chances. Take a
day to be illogical. It is totally liberating.

I was never a logical person. And you know, I am a better person
because of it. I will not go gently into my good night....I will
illogically rage against the dying of the light.

I think so far outside the box I can't even remember where it is. I used
to get called for cheating on my math in school and couldn't explain
that I just did it in my head, illogical, but accurate. Free thinking
was not encouraged.

Now you reminded me of my college classes in electronics. The teacher
dumbed it down for the slowest kid in the class so I idly did the
assignment for the next day while he was still lecturing on it, then
turned it in before I left the room for the next class. I drove my
teachers crazy with stuff like that, except for political science, which
was a colossal waste of time. They could have just told us the system
was corrupt and sent us on to the next class.

I try to be as non-intellectual as possible and very illogical, or why
would I waste time on a news group? A society of high IQ's is not likely
since evolution has reversed in the United States. The breeders are
welfare class, and the intelligent and educated are too wrapped up in
themselves to bother with children. What direction does that take the
gene pool? Not up.

If I was logical I would never have gone to that waterfall and then rock
climbed to take a picture of the water going down. One slip and I would
have been history, but there was that Adrenaline rush and knowing that I

Of course not, one learns that on his own, or not, as suits him. The worst thing
are "free thinkers" who lack the intellectual integrity and ability to focus and
bring logic to bear. The world is full of such. In the arts and sciences they
wander around whining that their genius is ignored. Oh, it's recognized, it's
just useless being undisciplined and unformed into something serviceable to
others.

It's amazing that Poli Sci is allowed to use the word "science" in its name. But
if that is all you got from it, then it was part of a truly atrocious education.

Do you have a problem with logical thinking? Logical thinking is what
solves problems. We need far more people who can solve problems than
we need people who can paint pretty pictures. One guy can make a
picture and post it to the internet for the entire planet to see in a
matter of seconds. It takes many thousands of people who can solve
problems to make the computer network that allows that artist to do
that.

Education is a training process for the mind. You may have all the
creativity in the world but it doesn't mean [censored] if you don't know how
to express it, whether your medium is clay, paint, music, or numbers.
The point of going to school is to learn to take care of yourself, and
later to express yourself.

BS. Standardized tests are checks to ensure that EVERYONE learns to
read, write and calculate. It was once the main function of school
teachers to teach all that. Somewhere along the way it got lost, and
now it seems to be coming back. We must test because the education
system is so full of politically correct BS that it no longer serves
to educate, merely to occupy children's time in the the least
offensive possible manner. The tests are not to judge the kid's
progress. The tests are to judge the teacher's performance. Almost
every kid can learn to read, write, and calculate, but not all
teachers are capable of teaching those skills.

Let's extend your argument about creativity a little... feeding babies
with spoons forces their moldable minds to associate spoons with food,
but there are so many other ways of eating! We should stop feeding
them with spoons at once! We are stifling their creativity in modes
of food ingestion. But, let's go just a little further...what's all
this changing diapers stuff about? By quickly removing the only
medium available to a baby to express his or her creativity we are
forcing their minds into a little box! All diaper changing should
stop immediately! We should not teach them our language when we know
they are perfectly capable of creating their own. Babies ahould be
isolated from all outside influences so that their innate creativity
will not be corrupted by our prejudices about language, cleanliness,
nutrition, and all the other nonsensical rules we force them to follow
from their first day out of the womb.

Someday, when everyone accepts the need for everyone to learn to read,
write, and calculate, and everyone is passing those tests because the
teachers are doing their jobs again, there may again be time in the
curriculum for feel-good stuff like finger painting, dancing, and
music. Until then, do that stuff on your own time.

If you have no education it is not liberating, it is a prison from
which there is no escape. Imagine what your life would be like if you

I got it, but having to know all the current events and names of even
the petty politicians of 1966 was such a waste of time and brain cells.
The part about the way things work in D.C. I got down pat, but in
reality we both know that it is a sham. There is no 'science' to
politics, only money and greed.

I tend to get too busy thinking about the physics of the universe as we
know it, which means very little at present. I often wonder how
scientists can state with such certainty that the universe is 14 billion
years old because that is the farthest starlight they can see. What if
our universe is only one of many clusters of galaxies in a truly
infinite space? Would they accept that? Could they? The same thing goes
on in the opposite direction, sub atomic. Quarks are supposed to be the
basic building blocks of matter, yet the mass of an electron is far less
than a quark. For any of you with a scientific background, you can see
that I am hinting at mankinds' inability to deal with or understand such
matters, and that we probably never will, so what is the meaning of an
IQ? Somewhat irrelevant, really, as there are carpenters who have IQ's
over 140 and PhDs with IQ's under 120.
It may be something to debate, but is it worth it?
What would Einstein get on a modern test?

Where is the post did I say we should not be educated. Being educated
has nothing to do with the right brain-left brain theroy or the
creative or logical mind.

I know many "educated" people who are not doing one useful thing with
their lives. In fact, my cousin, who STILL goes to school is so "STREET
STUPID" I can't begin to fathom how he manages to live day to day.

He is a 43 year old man with two degrees, a masters and not one ounce
of common sense. Now he is working on his PH.d. He never married,
never had kids, does not hold a job out in the real world.....but man
is he educated. He lives with my aunt, his mother. I think HIS life is
sad.

I think he hides in academia because he knows he functions well there
and would die in the real world. Many people hide in the academic
world.

Do you believe in natural intelligence? Have you ever seen a person
who had a natural ability which education enhanced? Go back to the
days when formal education was not an option for people. Their
intelligence led them. Their natural intelligence and natural
creativity.

None of this post was about formal education except to say how it might
stifle creativity.

I am not at all against education and I do not believe I said I was. I
believe a person should have a good education. My words were addressed
to logic and creativity. I think you missed my point completely. If
I had a point. (let me go back and check) Yea, I think there is a
point in there...could be wrong, but I think so.

I have a creative mind, I am not logical, I have an education, I have
a career, I run a business and I also watch TV.

I wonder who is going to be eliminated from American Idol tonight. ;-)
