Well, I was going to paint it white, then maybe lime green and pink, but now I'm actually kind of curious if I could get the frame painted with... spray-in bedliner. You know, the kind that you spray directly into the bed of a truck...
I read that it's ~$400 for the bed of a truck, but I'm wondering if there are any thick covering-type spray-on DIY options.

Are you looking for something like Herculiner? It's about thirty bucks for a one quart can, which should be plenty enough. I've used it on hotrod projects, and even though it doesn't turn out a pretty and professional as Rhinoliner, it is durable and it sticks to just about anything.

Whoa! Gnarly. Perfect for the beater bike.
None of the DIY varieties are as rugged as the professionally applied stuff. For a bike it might not be bad though, it's not like you're going to be throwing engines on it like a truck bed. Check an auto parts store and do a test.
A buddy of mine was having pro sound speaker cabinets done for about $100 each.
Maybe talk to someone who does it professionally, leave the frame and have him shoot it the next time he loads the gun for a big job. Save some money that way especially if you want something other than black.

Look for what's called 'impact coating.' If you don't thin it much and spray it the right way, you can get some nice texture and build up.
Doesn't the surface you are trying to coat need to be sanded to get it to adhere? I decided against a spray on liner for my pickup because they told me they had to sand the bed for it to work, and I didn't want my truck bed sanded.
What's wrong with black, besides it being hot in the summertime? I think a plain black frame would look great.

Absolutely! The 3 days of downtime would definitely be worth it. It would never get marred or dinged up at the bike racks anymore, either.

I can't help wondering how much weight a thick layer of rubberized finish will add to a bike.
If you do something that takes three days to dry, I hope that you'll put the bike on an electronic scale before and after (friendly shipping office, helpful veterinarian, obliging neighborhood narcotics dealer).
Maybe someone will come up with a calculation of the surface area of a typical bike frame and fork.

This is my commuter... The frame, fork, and headset are 9 lbs. I hardly think some rubber paint will make a big relative difference.
