  1. I'm sitting here rather tenderly, as my sit bones are rebelling at the
    first of the seasons ride.

It was nice to once again dig the gear outta the bag, pump up the tires,
strap the saddle bags to each of our rides, and head out for parts
unknown. I felt guilty at first, having wiped a good layer of dust off
of my saddle. As I spun along my guilt slowly turned to joy. The legs
were warming up, the feet were feeling the first ride of the season in
the riding shoes, and my hands were once again searching for that "just
    right" grip on the bar.

I was wearing glasses for the first time. Actually I always wore riding
glasses for sun protection in the day, and just plain protection on
night rides. No, this first with glasses was actually with
**prescription glasses**. So that is what the path in front of me is
supposed to look like...! Maybe my lack of visual acuity has been
holding me back a bit lately. Yeah, and maybe Paul Martin really didn't
know about the sponsorship scandal when he was Minister of Finance!

It was nice to feel the rush of the wind through the vents of my helmet
cooling down my, as yet uncut, orange hair. Yes, that's right. My hair
is now orange. Or rather "Garnier Mandarin". The twins at the local
coffee shop coloured their hair jet black, and I asked Linda (half
jokingly) what colour I should dye my hair?

"Pink" was her reply. Every time I asked, all I ever got was "pink".

Then one day, walking through the grocery store, I saw this stuff on
sale for $4 Canadian and thought "what the heck"? Garnier #84 Mandarin.
I thought it was cool when I finally finished drying my hair. I picked
Linda up for coffee, and she didn't even notice!!! I guess it isn't as
orange as I thought it was... <sigh>.

The legs felt good for having been off the bike for so long. Chalk one
up to a winter of aerobics classes. Yes Sorni, Rog spent a lot of time
over the winter in a room filled with sweaty women. Many of them were
sweaty "UN"coordinated women <grin>. It was nice to see that women are
not genetically predisposed towards success in aerobics class!

The bikes functioned perfectly. No missed shifts, no brake rubbing, no
problems with bearings or cleat clipping IN/OUT. Proper maintenance is
    key!

Yes, there were several firsts today, and there will be many many
    tomorrows!

Rog, you ARE the man! (No matter what anyone says about the hair 🙂 )

Keep on doin' it -- you're an inspiration to many of us. (The others just
    don't know.)

Great to hear you're back at it!

Maybe next time you could try a more shockingly-orange shade like Hunter
orange. I bet that would not only get you noticed but be much safer in
    the backcountry as well.
