Manitou fork elastomers

Put a pair of rigids on. Suspension is a waste of time on a commuter bike.

I do go off road too, on single track & woodland trails etc!, there's big
pot holes in the roads round here, sometimes bigger than you get off road!

Doki's right, of course, but elastomers do wear out and any good bike
shop should be able to order you in replacements. However a new rigid
fork will probably not cost a great deal more than a set or replacement
elastomers. Rigid forks will be lighter, stiffer and will ride better
on road.

Can you tell me more about the various combinations of elastomer suspension,
like i hear that different colours represent different resistances!

When your fingers and nose are blue, your elastomers do not bounce, they
fracture. Elastomers are [censored] at -15C.

I rode rigid forks not long ago. The difference between my old elastomer
forks which were admiteddly buggered, was nowt, other than lighter weight. I
put some marzocchis on. Not a *massive* difference either unless you're
doing stuff involving lots of rocks, IMO.

An alternate solution may be to replace the elastomer/spring combo you
have now with a longer spring!

I did so to a 1998 XVert-R with great succes. Essentialy I ended up with
a very stiff double crown fork with Manitou Black performance :-)

Go to a prober LBS with MTB knowledge and they should be able to help
you out.

I think reds are stiffer than yellow ones, but it's been a while since I
got rid of mine so I could be mistaken.
