Where abouts in Adelaide, If down south I reccomend The complete Cycle at Prt Noarlunga. Peter knows his stuff and has been doing what he does for a long time. the service and prices are very good there.

I live at Seacliff so Prt Noarlunga is a fair way away. Does Peter give a good bike fit?

Don't worry about the distance, it's worth the trip. I travel out of my way to go to Complete Cycle as well. Peter will look after you, just watch out for the rottweiler

in adelaide id have to recomend Mega Bike on king willam road great place got my bike there they stock willer, bianchi , oprea and some more claud and the boys down there are fantastic

I went to bycle express in Adelaide and they seem really good.

My favourite bike shop is Bernie Jones in Oaklands Park near Marion Shopping Centre. Speak to Jeff (owner) or Russell they know there stuff.

As for riding in Adelaide I can make a number of suggestions

There is a great flat ride that goes from the Buffalo restaurant in Glenelg (looks like an old sailing ship) out to Outer Harbour. Round trip is around the 50km mark and for the most part is light free. If you want to learn the route catches up with the Cobwebs group. They do the run each Saturday morning at 0800; check out the Bike SA website for more info www.bikesa.asn.au.

I personally like riding in the Hills and living in Blackwood makes this really easy. There is a great run that leads through Clarendon, Meadows and Echunga to Crafers.

There is also a bike path next to the southern expressway called the veloway. This leads from the shopping mall (around the back) at the comer of Marion and South Roads and leads all the way to McLaren Vale. About 35km’s there, some of the road crossings at the start will slow you down a bit.

Sorry i should have made it a bit clearer where to look. Bike SA have a calender that they put out every couple of months that list all the rides that they organise on a regular basis, also look at the events tab for a look at all the big rides that they organise.

Absolutely second that opinion🙂 Had nothing but great service from them since I bought my belived Trek 4100, so I buy everything there. Bought 12yo her bike there for same reason.

Bicycle Express are simply the most friendly bike store in Adelaide. They have fantastic bike knowledge and Keith will certainly match any price you have seen else where.

I went to Bicycle Express yesterday and they recommended me get the Trek 04 1000 road bike for $1000. Is this a good deal or not?

Yup. Not much diffrent between the 04 and 05 models

Bicycle Express are very good, and will look after you well.

As for rides, the outer harbour ride is ok, but boring (after doing it for 10 years), and can be very windy. I find Norton Summit (end of magil road) good, as you can go through to lofty once up top. Greenhill Road is also a reasonable climb and can take you to lofty, as can Eagle on Hill Road (old freeway).

As you live around Seacliff, head towards belair road or sheapards hill road to blackwood, and go through coromandel valley to clarendon or upper sturt to crafers, the later being a tough ride.

If you want casual rides, find a goup through BikeSA, they offer a fair bit and do some large (and i mean large) group rides every so often such as to victor etc. 🙂

Whats the best place to buy cycling clothing in Adelaide. The Jeseys at Bicycle Express where like $100 dollars. I only have bike sorts at the moment. And what winter bike cloths do I wear.

$100 is not bad for a Jersey. I know they are expensive, but they are quite a bit more comfortable then wearing just a t-shirt. Just remember quality counts, if your looking for just a basic jersey look for Netti or Jagged brand gear and stay away from pro-tour team versions as they always cost more.

As for winter clothing I suggest you invest in the following:
 Arm warmers
 Leg warmers
 Undershirt, your chest and arms get the coldest as they move the least. Even the lightweight summer version undershirts will help keep of the wind chill.
 Cycling bandana or cap.

Note I said “cycling” style! The bandana’s are similar in action to the jersey and take the sweat away from the body; this is also handy in summer. The cycling style caps are handy on really cold days or when its raining, they help keep the water out of your eyes without obscuring your vision. Do not wear a baseball cap under your helmet, the hard ridge will cause serious damage. I know mountain biker who wore one when he was younger and no has a scar on his forehead for his troubles; he cut his scalp down to the bone across his forehead from temple to temple.

Jus have to look around, and try a few other stores, such as JT's (Pultney st, 5 min walk from BE). That's the price you pay these days, however good little store in Elwood, Melbourne where I managed to get some cheaper stuff on a recent visit.

As for winter clothes, knee/leg warmers, arm warmers, wind stopper vest, full cover gloves, and rain jacket. Can go full jacket etc, but can be expensive,depends how you feel cold. I always find that an undergarment (breathable) and cycling top with vest and arm warmers fine.

Dont forget the shoe covers, as toes can get cold in the hills and rain. 🙂
