I have just received 3 LATEX long valve 'racing' innertubes that I bought online. I was in the process of putting a little air in one prior to fitting it when it ballooned up in one area about 4" long. The latex looked wafer thin in this area. I tries the other 2 tubes and these were the same. I emailed the shop where I bought them and they said that this was perfectly normal for latex tubes and mentioned "have you ever seen a contraceptive that has been blown up...that's how strong they are".
The shop has said that they will refund the moeny if I'm not happy, but I will keep them as long as they are OK.
Any experiences of LATEX tubes, is this normal, will they be OK?

That is normal ... the yellow compound contis seem to be the most uniform of all latex tubes. FWIW latex loses air MUCH faster than Butyl, check your pressures before EVERY ride.

Well, he's right about condoms, anyway, those are (each and every one) tested in Quality Control to hold 20 liters of air.

This is normal. They are thin, that is why they are lighter than other tubes. They will be as ok as any other latex tube. I use to run latex tubes, but I got tired of pumping up my tires before every ride. They lose quite a bit of air overnight. ----------------- Alex __O _-\<,_ (_)/ (_)
