No jokes or funny comments about age here, please. 😉 Yes, I'm 47, but there are guys who are 25 years older than me without this problem.
I've ridden bikes off and on for many years, but too often it was 'off'. I started riding a lot again a few years ago, and I'd worked up to a 68 mile bike ride about a year and a half ago. Within the next few months, though, I got to where I was having some soreness in the crotch, occasional numbness, and even some occasional temporary impotence. I was already using a split seat, but I read everything I could find, went to numerous bike shops, tried numerous seats, tried them higher, lower, further forward, further back, front end lowered a few degrees, gel split seats, fairly hard split seats, everything. Nothing has worked... I haven't sold my bikes yet, but I've only ridden maybe 250 miles in the past year.
I'm wondering if prostate enlargement has anything to do with it, besides the (I forget the name) nerve. But here's the part I don't understnd - if it's a split seat, and supposedly nothing is touching, then how/why is this happening? I don't really expect any miracle cure or answer, but I'm just wondering if anyone has had problems this bad, or knows of anyone who did, and whether they had to just quit cycling and/or buy a recumbent (which I don't want to do). I'm 6'4" and about 226 currently, which isn't bad for the height, but I have a nephew who's the same height and lighter, and he isn't having problems, so maybe that's part of it.
Could an athletic supporter help? Does anyone wear one while riding? (Under the usual bike shorts, of course). And that's another question - I've heard you're not suppose to wear underwear under bike shorts, but others do or say you should.
