It was like that in York yesterday, but it was very, very localised.

I was out on the bike and it just drizzled. Back in York the roads were
saoking and 5 mins after I got in it did a good impression of a powershower.

forecast):

you can always choose the weather you want by selecting the right site.

generalised)

This is true -- you can use them to discourage a ride, or to encourage
yourself depending on how you're feeling. The awesome power of the interweb!

Yes, I actually have that one bookmarked (the only weather site I have)
and I find it very useful - when I'm going out on my own, I use it to
check which direction I should set off in (wind behind me on the way
home, of course).

When you say that theyr.net is a really good graphical forecast I assume
that the really good applies to the graphics, not the forecast. Just
looking at the Theyr rainfall prediction for 1400 UTC today and comparing it
with 'reality' available from
http://www.meto.gov.uk/weather/europe/uk/radar/index.html shows that their
prediction is way off the mark.
The forecast available from Meteoblue (
http://pages.unibas.ch/geo/mcr/3d/meteo/index.htm , 'European Forecast', '3h
Precipitation - All' ) looks far closer to this afternoon's reality but
tomorrow the situation may well be reversed !

I can second the "theyr" site although their wind forecast is frequently
about 7-10 knots lower then reality.

Yes. You're quite right. theyr.com complete rubbish and not worth bothering
with. If I were you, I wouldn't bother with them.

Mmm. I was out on Friday, attempting to cycle between Lincoln and Durham
(again). The parallels with my last abortive attempt were uncanny; same [censored]
weather, same [censored] headwind, same lovely giant baked potato in a York cafe,
same bailout at Northallerton when the weather became too severe to continue
safely. This time I got a puncture as well, Just For Fun.

Last time the reason for bailout was snow, this time it was a prolonged "sea
with slots" event that started about 12 miles before I got to Thirsk. By the
time I reached Northallerton I could barely see where I was going in the
murk and wobbled alarmingly every time a gust of wind hit me. Bah!
Apparently Newcastle recieved the most rainfall in a single day on Friday
for some significant number of years. I do know how to pick 'em...

At least I provided some amusement for the man in Northallerton station
ticket office 🙂
