  1. 1 ) what size allen key is needed to remove cranks ?

    2) how the hell do you remove the bottom of a headset from a frame?

    tia.
i'm sure lots more stupid questions will follow

  2. 1) It depends on the crankset. The most common is 8mm.

    2) Take it to a reputable LBS and have them do it, unless you have a
    headset removal tool.

    JD

  3. As the crankset goes, removing that bolt won't necessarily do it alone.
Again, depends on the crank You may need a crank extractor too.

    Swapping frames?

    /s

(Hmmm... a straight answer from JD.... I can't help but wait for the
    other shoe to drop.)

  4. have the extractor already, yeah, its coming off one bike, and going onto
    another
    many thanks

The name "strawberry" reminds me of Cheech's cousin "Strawberry" from
Up In Smoke, so I had to laugh and post straight.

God knows, the big one that fits nothing else.

You 'need' a tool that looks like a 1 1/8th pipe with a split down the
middle, it hooks the cup and you bash it out with a hammer. However, the
alternative way is to use a hammer and punch. You'll probably wreck the cups
but if you're taking the cups out, you're most likely putting a new headset
    in anyway.
