"Here is an ADVANCE WARNING of Heavy Snow and Blizzards affecting Scotland,
Northern Ireland, England and Wales.
Issued by the Met Office at 10:10 on Wednesday, 6 April 2005.
The Met Office is expecting a brief period of wintry weather as a cold
Arctic airflow extends south across the UK.
The area primarily at risk is northern Scotland, Northern Ireland and later
Wales, where temporary accumulations of a few cm of snow are possible at low
levels leading to some icy roads. Over high ground in these areas,
accumulations as much as 10cm are possible, with drifting in strong to gale
force northerly winds, which will lead to blizzard conditions at times. In
the northeast of Scotland, severe gales are possible with gusts around
70mph.
For remaining areas of the UK there is a much lower risk that snow showers
and icy roads will lead to some disruption"
