  1. I'm trying to drop a couple of pounds while maitaining muscle size.
Currently, I'm lifting strenuously 3-4 times a week with good results. I'm
looking to drop about 10 pounds, but want to keep the size in the arms,
    chest etc.

I'm considering going on an essentially all protein supplement diet in hopes
of keeping calories low and muscle high. I'm looking for any alternative
suggestions or someone who has achieved this with a different formula.

    Suggestions appreciated.

You will die of boredom... ;-)

A plain low carb diet with protein from natural meat, egg and dairy
sources will do you just fine. Just get all of your carbs from fresh
green veggies such as leafy greens, brocolli, cauliflower, summer
squash, string beans...... you get the idea.

Get a set of food tables and keep your carbs below 50 grams per day.

The veggies will keep you from getting constipated.

I've lost 30 lbs. in the past 3 months doing this, with no loss of
strength or muscle as far as I can tell.

Powder supplements are ok if you are in a hurry, but they are not
necessary. Probably more efficient price-wise gram for gram of protein,
but I really prefer to "eat" my food.

Good luck! There are a million and one ways to prepare eggs and chicken!

If you are really good about totally avoiding starchy carbs and sugar,
fat is not as much of an issue except for total calorie count. No matter
what diet you choose to follow, calories still count!!!

Turkey rules. I cook one on the weekend, then eat off it all week. Tastier
than chicken if cooked properly. Use a meat thermometer and take it out
when it hits 170F. That's the key...170, and it's moist and very tasty.

Ignore the circus-sideshow hype, buy the book, read it,
and you'll know exactly how to do what you're asking about,
in more detail than you can now imagine.

And how can you tell? Some sort of objective bodyfat
measurement is the only way to get close, and short of
a full-body MRI there's no objective bodyfat measurement
that's as accurate as your subjective statement just now
    purported to be.

    When you're eating 5 to 6 meals a day, 1 or 2 protein
shakes are a blessing. Though eating real food will
actually help you lose weight faster at the same calorie
    and protein intake.

You don't need to go low-carb unless nothing else is
actually working. The last 25 lbs I've dropped were at
    a targeted 45/40/15 ratio of carb/protein/fat calories.
Keeping a 300-800 calorie deficit will cause you to lose
weight safely, and working out to keep your muscles highly
active will keep more of that weight from being muscle.

Yum! I agree... but I don't generally cook a whole bird since there are
just two of us. When turkey is cheap around the holidays, (79 cents per
lb. or less), I'll get 2 or 3 of them and "part" them out, then use a
Tilia food saver to seal them up and re-freeze. I'll roast, braise or
broil turkey legs, wings and/or thighs and use the breast meat either
sliced and grilled in the foreman, or diced up for stir fry.

Stir fry's are a WONDERFUL way to keep the carbs down and keep life
interesting. I'll use different meats and veggies in them, along with
scrambled eggs. Different sauces give added flavor.

A must for stir fry's is a combination of fresh grated ginger and garlic
    or garlic powder. ;-)

    OK, recipe time:

2 lb chicken breasts, sliced up
1 lb broccoli matchsticks or stir-fry veg (comes washed and cut in a bag)
    ..25 c peanut butter
2 Tbsp chili paste with garlic (adjust to taste)
..25 c vinegar (rice, white wine, cider)
    generous splash of soy sauce

Great nutritional profile, dead easy to prepare, tastes great. My only
problem is defending it from my kids, who will steal all my lunches if I'm
    not careful.

<lol> Sounds healthy, so cook enough for them? 😉

    The above recipe sounds wonderful!
The only thing I'd add is about 1 tsp. of garlic powder and about 1 tbs.
of fresh grated ginger... I don't actually measure either one of those,
I just add a few shakes from the garlic powder container and a break a
small to medium section off of a rhizome of fresh ginger and run it over
    the fine cheese grater...

1 lb broccoli matchsticks or stir-fry veg (comes washed and cut in a
    bag) .25 c peanut butter
2 Tbsp chili paste with garlic (adjust to taste)
.25 c vinegar (rice, white wine, cider)
    generous splash of soy sauce

Great nutritional profile, dead easy to prepare, tastes great. My only
problem is defending it from my kids, who will steal all my lunches
    if I'm not careful.

Sounds great. I'll have to try that too.
