Wisdom Teeth

wisdom teeth and not to worry about it. Well..now..I have a problem..they
are causing me pain. I tend to worry about these things and have spent the
past 2 hours researching wisdom teeth issues on the internet.
I should have had them removed years ago and now there could be
complications because of my age. I'm calling a Oral Surgeon tommorrow.
Anyone have impacted wisdom teeth removed after 35?

I've had them out, yes. At 37 None were impacted though.
There were no complications but I had to have it done as outpatient
surgery in a hospital.
Was that dentist you saw 20 years ago a republican by any chance?

that for so long?

My dentist told me not to worry about it until they started bothering me.
They just started to bother me many years later.Like now. I think my dentist
was either lazy or ill informed. Whatever..I have to deal with this
now..MONDAY morning tomorrow.

Jim, you're doing the right thing by calling an OS. The horror stories about
wisdom tooth extractions have some truth to them, but not much. Your surgeon
will likely give you the option of total sedation or twilight sedation, and
you'll likely be out of commission for a couple of days. I work for a
dentist and I see 70 year olds survive having all their teeth out and
alveoplasty(bone trim) without much trouble, and you're certainly more fit
than they are. Talk to your OS and he'll shoot you straight.

Jim, you're doing the right thing by calling an OS. The horror stories
about
wisdom tooth extractions have some truth to them, but not much. Your
surgeon
will likely give you the option of total sedation or twilight sedation,
and
you'll likely be out of commission for a couple of days. I work for a
dentist and I see 70 year olds survive having all their teeth out and

Actually, having it done under general anesthesia is a piece of cake. At
least it was when I was 17. Week or so of mild discomfort, mitigated with
Tylenol/Codiene. I had a much easier go then friends who had it done in the
dentist office.

Have the oral surgeon use Brevital, a very short acting anesthetic. That
way, if you stop breathing, they can resuscitate you. Worst case scenario:
they forgot how to use that resuscitation equipment on the cart because they
never had to before and you end up in a chronic vegetative state.

We will probably not notice much change 🙂

I think he was neither lazy nor ill informed. Lots of people live their
entire lives with their wisdom teeth at a variety of angles. As long as
they weren't causing problems in the past there's no reason to expect
that they would two decades later and take risky preemptive action
involving surgery, anaesthetic, and a good potential for infection post
operatively. Not to mention the discomfort involved. I think you should
take a deep breath and try to stop this panic trip you're starting on.
You'll need a clear head to make medical decisions with.

When I was a kid, my dentist tried to talk me into getting my wisdom
teeth cut out every visit, but I always refused. Other than a few
years of teething in my teens, they've never given me a lick of
trouble. They all came in perfectly straight.

I'm really surprised to hear of your predicament, Jim. Figured a guy
with a mouth as big as yours would have no problems whatsoever.

Yeah, I had mine taken out around that age. Minor impacted (they were
sideways, but not bothering me yet). I had my dentist do it right there (he
is a fantastic dentist, and if he says he can do it I trust him). No
problems, no after removal drugs, no worries.

I had mine taken out when I was 37 or so, all four corners. I got put
under for it one the surgeons recommendation, and when I woke up I was
the MOST sick and miserable than I had ever been on any previous
surgery! To start with when I was coming out of the fog they were having
a drill in the recovery room, one nurse asking if someone was calling
911 and another saying the paddles were ready to go, it was close by so
I was convinced it was me they were working on. Then when the fog
cleared somewhat another nurse came by, took one look at me and asked if
I was going to throw up because I sure looked sick! After hearing her
repeat it when she brought a large bucket I was starting to feel like
it.. then another nurse was going to bring me some ginger ale and nurse
Ratchit told her not to as it was plain to see I was about to hurl all
over the place. To top it all off I had what felt like 4 extra large
maxi pads jammed in each corner of my mouth, and I could feel the blood
dripping down my throat.

When I finally got out of there it was an agonizing 3 hour ride home
with my head out the window spitting out wads of blood and then a week
or so of rinsing out the massive cavities left behind with a squirt gun
after every meal. The only good thing was the generous supplies of T3's
they gave me which were good for "mini vacations" when I took 2 at once
(not as good as demorral though)

If I have to be put under again, I'm going to get the anaesthetist that
did the job for my appendectomy. I was doing really well after that.
That was such a bloody easy surgery compared to others I've had, despite
it being done with the full incision rather than keyhole. I've had good
and bad anaesthetists in the past, but that appendectomy anaesthetic was
the easiest ride yet. I should look up his name in my records, in case
anyone else ever needs surgery on a trip to Perth :-)
