Hi,
I have been thinking of doing Offas Dyke path on a bike rather than walking
it.
Does anyone who has been on this path think that it is a suitable path for
a mountain bike to go on?
Thanks

IIRC bikes are not allowed on Footpaths, only Bridleways, and roads

No.. Definitely not.
Some bits are, but most of the time its a stile infested footpath.
A lot of Glyndwr's is good on a bike though....

I cycled a bit from Chesptow to Tintern on a wet day last Autumn - I
think I clocked seven miles in two hours? Some of it is too steep for
biking (really!), other bits are slow going where its rocky. Nice ride
tho'.

There are plenty of other paths in the lower Wye Valley that you can link up
to make a good ride from Chepstow to Symonds Yat. Forestry tracks, rough
bridleways, and long sections of old railway line which are currently still
pleasantly overgrown and interesting but maybe not for long if Sustrans get
their hands on them.

In The Forest you are spoilt for ridable tracks....
Dont forget the good caff at Beechenhurst... (Bike or walk in - car
park has a bandit)

The cycle tracks I've found around Coleford are a bit dull, IMHO,
designed for families to chaperone little girls on Barbie bikes
around.
We did come across a group of downhill cycling nutters on bikes that
looked like motorcross machines, wearing more kevlar than is strictly
necessary ... :-) I think they knew a trail that I didn't...

There's the waymarked FODCA trail from the Canop cycle centre if sliding
about on slippy tree roots is your kind of thing. But there's a lot more to
the Forest than waymarked trails.
