  1. Hello there

I'm currently running a 52-42 on the front of my road bike with a 12-26 on the back and finding some steeper hills a bit too macho for my aging thighs. Is there any value in going for a 53-39 chainset on the front (the hills aren't murdering me, just it seems a little bit too much of an effort than I expected) or do I have to bite the bullet and get a triple?

Well why not just use a smaller chainring. 38 for a 130 BCD, 39 for a 135BCD and a 33 or 34 if you have a 110....A compaact cran with a34/50 chainset is another option, other than a triple.
