Went for various cycle bits in lidls today. The toolkit at £14.99 is
pretty damn good and if anything better than the £34.00 version I
bought from probikekit. I now have a spare toolkit to leave in the
back of the car when its parked at work.
I bought a couple of the £1.99 combination locks and here's the
annoyance. Set the lock up for my year of birth. All was well but then
decided to change the combination as that might be a bit obvious to
some. So changed it and then released as I was spinning the lock that
something clicked. The little two prong mechanism obviously hadn't
gone back into place fully. Yes the mechanism is obviously fairly
poorly engineered and now I don't know the combination. [censored]!
All would have been well if I'd just put a few drops of oil on the
mechanism and it would have probably worn in better with use. Probably
by the time it goes back they'll be out of replacements. I spent about
ten minutes trying to pick the lock but it seems to be pick proof
which is good. Luckily I was only testing the lock at the time and
I've not locked the bike up anywhere.
Anyway my advice to anyone buying these is a few drops/squirts of oil
on the two prongs you push in to set the combination.
