Hi, I'm trying to fit a new FSA Platinum Pro ISIS BB to my bike. I checked on www.parktool.com to see what sort of tool I need and it says there that it takes the same 20-tooth internal splined cup tool as Shimano BB's. So I went to my LBS this morning and they didn't have the Parktool BBT-2 so I bought a Weldtite 'Cyclo' Shimano 20-tooth internal splined cup BB tool instead. Weird thing is that it works fine on the non-drive side, but on the drive side there is a metal lip around the spindle which comes out just a little bit further than the splines. It's just about wide enough to prevent the BB tool from reaching the splines. Is it simply my mistake that I assumed all Shimano 20-tooth BB tools were the same, or is there something I should be doing? Like forcing the tool aorund the metal lip? Any help would be much appreciated.
On the right hand side of the photo you can see the silver coloured metal lip where the spindle emeges from the shell. The tool simply won't go round this and so it can't reach the splines.

The spline pattern is what is the same.Beyond that there can be significant differences.Is that piece that is in the way simply removable?
Just saw your update....no it's definitely not removable, it turns with the spindle. Just looking more closely at the tool I have and the width of the rim out of which the splined ridges protrude seems very uneven. It's basically thicker on one side than it is on the other. Maybe I just got a cheap tool. Having said that it fits perfectly round a old Shimano BB i have here. I'll just bring the BB with me to the shop, seems like the best solution. Thanks.
