Guys, from 1970 until 1980, every issue of Bicycling! magazine was
like a Chapter of the "Dancing Chain". That was, until, Rodevil Press
bought that magazine and sucked the life out of it in one short

I guess I'd never seen it during those years. I only remember it as "Bike Stuff
You Should BUY" the monthly.

Ever see the series of Calvin strips where he subscribes to "Chewing" the
magazine for gum chewers and competitive bubble blowing? Perfect satire.

Sounds almost like the library system here in Sorrysota, I have been
waiting for over a month for "The Recumbent Bicycle" to come in from
some other library.

As a rare-ish book, buying it online and selling it one library rental
period later would be well worth it... Amazon itself has the lowest price
available. It would become a coffee table book for me though.

Although I got pretty tired of the endless gear permutations,
half-step plus granny and what you could do with a Huret Duopar
derailleur. I refused to keep a gear chart on my stem. At least
it was real bicycle magazine and not the POS of today. BTW, I
cancelled my subscription almost two years ago, and it is STILL
coming. I bet they have to keep the subscription numbers up to

They went and bought the thing at my request so I won't gripe. Hell, it seems a
lot of people were waiting for it so I won't feel bad.

Now I will grumble about finding that I was 14th in line for the novel "Fight
Club." You'd think that when people are waiting months for a book they might
pick up another copy. But then again, maybe they saved the cash for the Dancing
Chain.

How much/what is new with this edition?

I didn't see the first, there is a new chapter covering 1995-2005 and Mr Berto's
introduction speaks of two other new chapters, many new illustrations,
corrections and additions from correspondence received since and rewrites of
just about everything else.

It's apparently a pretty major overhaul.

I canceled years ago. Then last year my membership in the League of
American Bicyclists (another sadly deteriorated institution) included a
year's subscription to Buycycling.

The year ran out, the magazine stopped - then last week, out of the
blue, I got _two_ consecutive issues in the mail on the same day!

Their advertising accountants must have _some_ scheme going on.

Funny, but just came in after I posted that message! I picked it up last
