I know that some swimmer get one size smaller for races.
If you were to get 1 size larger, would the suit last longer?
Or would there be other problems with that.
Thanks,
Micheal

It will be funny if MWS were here. I doubt that I swimsuit will last
longer if it was larger. Swimsuit deterioration is because the chlorine
damages the fabric. Getting a larger swimsuit will create more drag,
and some swimmers want that for training. They use the tighter fitting
one in races to eliminate all the drag. If you want a swimsuit to last
longer try to get a training suit with a liner inside. Otherwise, wear
a "beach" type of suit.

Ok, I shall ask the question in a different way....
My current suit size is 32. My pants size, whether its jeans, dress pants or
any other type is 34.
If I was raceing, would that mean that I should go to a 30, so that I down
size? Or am I at the size for racing, and should use a 34 for regular
swimming?
Thanks...

Is your suit too small, or are your pants too big?
Why don't you just wear a suit that fits?
Why don't you just wear the one that fits more comfortably? How are you
going to do a decent training session if you're uncomfortable? Same thing
applies to a race. If something about your suit is painful or uncomfortable
then you're not going to perform very well.
Charlie.

I agree with Charlie. Wear a swimsut that is comfortable, but has as
little friction as possible. The fabric should fit next to the skin
without wrinkles or folds. I doubt that going up or down a size will
make much difference in your overall times.

The sizes don't necessarily agree. Brief suits are measured around the
hips (since that's where the drawstring fits) while pants are measured
somewhat higher. I wear 33 or 34 inch pants (depending on cut), but I
wear a 36 Speedo (which fits snugly).

I'm buying my first competition suit, measured my waist, and it was
exactly 26", I've found it very har d to find anywhere that carries a
26 in the store. THe speedo 28" looked like it would fit, I also looked
at boys suits and found a 24, but it looked tiny. Since this is my
first competition suit, so how do I really know what to get, and what
works?
What do you normally wear in Speedos?
Charlie.

By my fist competiton suit I didnt actually neccesarily mean
competition, I guess I shoul have said raing suit, as in this is the
first time I've ever bought a tight fitting speedo suit. Anyways, I had
to get it, so I just did, and had to return it, and I think I found out
the reason why. Apparently the Speedo regualr lycra suits run small,
they're really meant for waist a size lower than what it says on the
tag. Anyways, I exchanged the 26 I got for a 28, and it fits perfectly.
If I remember right I usually drop down a size when I buy a practice
suit, buts its not for drag, its because of the sizing, and because as
the suit wears it will loosen up a ton. Maybe drop another size for
competition, but as long as its a competition suit it won't make much
difference.

I am unsure if I am downsizing to far. My pants fit fine.

I am trying to figure out that. I have tried on a 34, and it fit properly,
the 32 fits more snug, but doesnt show anything, or hurt.
Thanks,
Micheal

My suits are not uncomfortable. I could wear a smaller size, but once I into
boy sizes, 28 or lower, it get too tight, and also becomes indecent. 34
would it, 36 would be too loose.

It would make it a drag suit, good for making workouts little harder, adding
drag. Probably wouldn't last significantly longer.

Its not that odd of a question - in competition suits, Aqualblade & Fast
Skin I generally run a size smaller than regular suits, but then again the
fast skin II runs at the same size which is odd. Suits rarely fit the same
size as other clothing in my experience, and downsizing for a racing suit so
that its a little tighter than normal (compared to your practice suit) is
pretty common - thats what i did as a swimmer, and what my swimmers do now.
