are incredibly breathable and totally waterproof.
Aside from the bulk, another problem with the directional liner is it
adds perceptible insulation (roughly the same as a microfleece IME), and
if you're on a ride where you wouldn't want a microfleece, you probably
don't want a Paramo jacket either. Not an issue this time of year, and
the bulk problem is resolved by you wearing it, but for summer it's just
too hot for me. Yes, they are very breathable, but if you're generating
far more sweat anyway due to the extra warmth that's a moot point! Some
people can wear them happily all year round, but I am not one of those
people :-(

can easily be pulled up if necessary.
Hood on a bike is worthless IMHO: a waterproof hat never restricts your
rearward or peripheral vision. Only use for a hood on a cycling jacket
IMHO is when you're off the bike. Hillwalking jackets have a tendency
to be over-built for cycling where there is less abrasion than a typical
day dandering around a rocky mountainside with a pack on, and the cut
isn't as good at the front for your knees to come up as high as they do
on a bike on a repeated basis.

I've found Goretex disappointing down the years. Tend to fail, and not that
breathable.
Lowe have stopped using TPC, because they couldn't get it any more
breathable. They switched to eVent, which by all accounts is very good
and the most breathable laminate/coating out there at the mo, but it
isn't a name Mr. and Mrs. J Public know that well and the Lowe eVent
jackets didn't fare well in the market as a result. They've now
switched to using Goretex XCR in their top of the range, most breathable
jackets.
