with in this newsgroup, the occasional ad is hardly a cross to bear...

My way around it is to break something or crash (then break something), then
it's "a required purchase" and easy to justify *grin*
Breaking something is better than crashing though!

I'm getting sick of the trolls too, we never used to have [censored] like
"spring weeds" when everyone had to use a 2400baud modem or slower ;-)

I'll go along with that. Spam is a sucky thing, but this is relevant and
hardly intrusive. A lot of of it counts as passable bike pr0n too 😉

I agree with Absent Husband and Dutchy. There is no aus.bicycle.foresale group, and the generic bicycle.foresale type groups are a complete waste of space unless you voted for bush, so Gemmas, Hippys, etc. etc. occasional ads are very welcome here.

Of course Perry would see that very differently.

Hi Gem,

You have clearly marked in the subject of your post FA (For Auction). So as
long as it is bike related I cannot see a problem using this group as a
medium for letting others in Australia know that you occasionally have
something for "private sale or auction" that might interest us. However, I
think you might start "drawing the crabs" now you've stepped it up a level
(i.e. selling from an eBay store).

Unfortunately there's no other way of doing it, aside from constantly
advertising things with huge lists and spending all day emailing hi-res
pictures to anyone who asks. Using ebay's store function means I can have
things "for sale" (rather than for auction) and no have to constantly
re-list each week. Althought the subject line is FA: most of the stuff
listed is actually FS: - but people get crabbier when you say FS: and it's
on ebay (despite things being a fixed price!). Having an ebay store don't
make me a bike shop! I'm not giving up my day job, put it this way - it's
just stuff for sale from my and a friend and club member's private (and
extensive) stash.

It can't be real - it was a pose, wasn't it? You were all track
standing really well, and the photo was a long exposure to give that
slight blurred effect. 🙂

As real as it comes. Me vs Eddie "the Eagle" (in blue) and my arch-nemesis,
Mal ("Red Devils" Kilkeny Cycling club colours). According to my speedo
from that day, that's a 54kmh shot :-)

Dammit the shadow never lies!
The finish line is taken at the black line (inside the white area). The
first wheel to reach that point in a vertical plane wins (like a horse's
nose 'at the post' at the races - there is actually a 'post' at the track
where that picture was taken too, off screen to the left). So the photo is
pretty much the actual finish! If only it was another couple of feet away I
would have won comfortably! So the results were, Mal, me, Eddie.

Of interest to perhaps Suzy J - Mal races everyweek on a 3(?) or 5(?) Star
Malvern Star track frame, with nice gold linework. Can't quite count the
stars in the pic.

Gem I don't think it's a major problem on this newsgroup. In the main
it's been pretty low key and only a few grumbles. As long as we don't
get bombarded with spam type advertising then we should keep the status
quo as a light tolerance. We all pretty much know who is who and I'm
sure if anyone gets out of control we'll be sure to let them know. (In
our cheeky light hearted way of course 😉 )

Might just be me but I'm sure most of the guys on this list would simply
prefer to buy her the bike first off and leave the rings for mobile
