It's a few years since I walked The Cut now, so this probably isn't
reliable. As far as I remember, the track hould be passable on a mountain
bike. The section of the track approaching Shielhill Farm was a bit of a
muddy hole though.

I have seen bikers exploring the tracks beyond the visitor centre at
Muirsheil which might be an alternative.

Can't remember which bit Drumfrochar is but my memory of walking the cut
from last year is that you should be allright on a mouuntain bike but not
on a road bike.

Not sure where the corneralees bridge is, but I've ridden over the Old Largs
Road past Loch Thom a few times on the road bike - a very pleasant climb (
from Largs) or a leg tester (from Greenock). Road is as good as any other
single track in west scotland this time of year ie pot holes galore but fine
if you stay alert. At reasonable pace it's 45 mins, taking in the scenary it
could be 2-3 hours I guess. Largs has lots of potential as a lunch stop.
I've also been across to Cumbrae once which was nice as a trip to the pub
but dull dull dull as a ride as it's flat as the proverbial pancake. Not
sure about getting back if you want to do a loop - the coast road through
Inverkip is narrow and busy and fairly devoid of any pleasure with the
exception of drafting trucks (which I definately don't take part in ;0) ).

As for off-road, I've been once to Muirshiel Park once and it's pretty
bleak. A few tracks but all dull ending in deadends. If anybody knows a
MTB-able way across from Lochwinnoch to Largs or anywhere I'd be interested.
