However, there is a significant gap between a short outing and the realities of long distance endurance.

    For those focused on centuries and brevets, the true test of a bike is how it behaves in the later hours of a ride. Short exposure may not be enough to determine if a setup will remain comfortable over a hundred miles. A bike could feel efficient on a quick loop, but some fit nuances might only surface after several consecutive long rides. This is especially true for details like saddle tilt, where a difference of just one or two millimetres can be the difference between comfort and perineal numbness.

    Furthermore, a brief experience provides little insight into the long term service needs of a frame or the durability of specific components under sustained load. Small inconsistencies in shifting or minor creaks might not be as prominent during a short trip as they are when you are focusing on maintaining a steady carbohydrate intake and electrolyte balance in the heat.

    Since short rides might mask the ergonomic flaws that appear during endurance events, how do you determine if a bike's geometry is actually sustainable for a full century before committing to it?
