Broken seat post

It's strange that a high-quality post would just fail for no apparent reason.

Have a lot of questions for you here:

Did you buy the post new? If so, where did you get it? Install it yourself? Has it been moved from one bike to another, or adjusted frequently? How many years/miles on it? Was it scratched, gouged or in an accident prior to failing?

Reply: Post was new, can't remember how old it is now since I have several bikes, a garage full of equipment etc. Install myself?- sure, I'm a bike techy and do many of my own mechanics etc.... Moving from one bike to another? why would that matter if it was consistently placed correctly.. not scratched, no accidents, etc... nada. The metal sure seems thin though compared to the Campy products. K.
