I haven't been by in a while. From the look google-groups gives me it seems kind of quiet here. Is that just me, or google, or are people drifting off to blogs and message boards? I think that is happening to USENET in general.
I'm interested in a couple things right now and am wondering where to look. I might switch cameras (from an old Nikon 995) if I could find something semi-inexpensive, small, and sturdy. I'm also wondering how well you can use net resources to just go someplace and hook up with local riders. I know if you were coming here (Orange County, California) you could use OutdoorsClub, but it seems sparse elsewhere. I was thinking of a trip out toward Texas, maybe as far as the gulf coast and wanted to get some riding in.
(I did really enjoy the copper canyon trip report and pictures.)

Lot's of good cameras out there in the $300-$400 range. Just look around and get a known brand!
You can always find people to hook up with when traveling. Either through here or call a LBS at your destination. I did that in Phoenix and hooked up with a night ride.

I use Google at work and then when I come home I see 3 times as many posts as Google has.
Google Groups will probably end up killing real Usenet.
Well that's a drag. I like moving to web-centered thing like bloglines and delicious so that I don't have to worry where I am. Having read/unread tracking on just one of my PCs seems so last-century.
(I'm sure I could actually like pay for a web news service, but that strikes me as excessive.)
in the uk, the young amongst the mtb community have a dedicated forum at http://www.mbuk.com/forum/ to arrange rides. there was 30+ turned up for the last london ride iirc
