Well, thanks. This is the most positive reply i've had yet, Considering all
I originally asked about what makes SS good or even better. But a lot of
people got on their high horses about it and naturally I countered that,
(because I wasn't expecting hostility about it.)

I saw a guy with an SS on top of his ricer the other day, to my
surprise. I just thought he had a regular MTB as I was about 1/2 a
block behind him, then the closer I got the more apparent it got that
this wasn't just your everyday sporting goods model. 26"er, check,
discs (which caught my attention more than the SS gearing, initially)
but no shifters, then sure enuff I looked back and yep, fixed gear. I
think I caught the guy trying to see if I was checking him out. this
was sort of in the middle of an area there's next to no dirt, and his
bike wasn't very dusty so I wondered if he was just coming north from a
one of the local parks with some small trails or what.

oh well failed to roll down the windows and ask....perhaps next time. I
never see them otherwise, but they're perfectly welcome. I am
definitely pro-SS, except on a couple short climbs I do, I don't know if
it'd fly. I certainly don't undertsand any kind of us-vs-them mentality.

Definately not an us v them. When I am on the trail, the geared riders
are always supportive of me attempting the same hills they are on with
one gear. Usually I am slower getting to the top, but they all give me
praise for trying. If anything, they all are beginning to talk about
getting one. Don't get me wrong though, I'm still very much in love
with my geared bike. Each has their own application.

Naah, I'm guessing the average motorcyclist wouldn't say a word. He'd

That's odd. I'm usually well ahead of the gearies on most climbs- I
have no real choice.
