Being that I bought a 9speed Shimano rear hub/wheel for my 89' Royce Union
Hybrid MTB, and its goes into the frame with just a smidgen of coaxing,
I'm of course tempted to change the cassette from the old 7 speed (which I
put on it using an extra spacer), to a 9 speed cassette.
I know, I need to use the thinner chain for the cassette's closer spacing
(4.5mm vs 5.0mm) , and I like friction thumb shifters (no problem with
indexing) , so can I use my existing good as new XT front and rear
derailleurs, or no?
Thanks very much,
Rog
[Got my wife to go out on the Schwinn World Tourist you guys helped me
convert into a smooth compact triple 15sp. She's recuperating from a total
hip replacement.]
