CSC is immers dringend op zoek naar een bijkomende sponsor. Al maanden gonst het van de geruchten dat het het team van Riis het niet breed heeft. Zo zou- den de renners tot het einde van maart slecht de helft van hun loon krijgen.
Opmerkelijk: de renners die bleven gin- gen akkoord met die deal. Daar staat tegenover dat elke renner weg kan als er een goed bod komt, meldt HNB. Zo verhuisde Fabrizio Guidi naar Phonak.

They've had such good results and provided such good entertainment value over the last few years that its hard to understand why they can't get more sponsorship. I for one would be sad to see them disappear (or dissolve due to rider loss.

I thought that to be included in the Pro Tour every team had to provide a bank guarantee of some form that they had a certain amount available? Isn't that one of the fundamental ideas behind the Pro Tour?

Maybe for them it was a trade off between fat salary payments, or running the team like an ambitious pro tour team should be run.

Isn't this always the case with them? Two years ago they were riding the Giro with plain black shorts, essentially saying; "Thsi space for rent"

Usually a bank guarantee means no more than you've given financials to the bank and a fee based on what they've seen. Doesn't mean that you have cash, only the expectation of enough cash at each point along the way. If there was another expected sponsor penciled in and the bank knows they can go to CSC for the cash if worse comes to worst, then that would be enough.
I think that the use of the bank guarantee is a last resort and amounts almost to a formal dissolution of the team. If CSC has a measure of credibility with the team members, perhaps they have decided not to do that yet.

I guess if I ever own a team, and I am purporting to sell space on my jersey and sell the name to a sponsor, I reckon I'll try and collect the money in advance.

CSC is paying, that's not the problem. They're just not paying enough for the team to be run the way Riis likes it. They need another sponsor.
What I can not understand is how the riders will flip out and go on strike over the mandatory helmet issue, but do nothing to organize themselves to make sure that there are adequate measuresin place to ensure that they get paid. The team owners have areally good thing going: A peloton that can't get itself together.
