Motorists don't travel in large groups do they. They're just a load of individuals going in the same
direction pretty much like all the cyclists on the cycle path I use in the mornings. And the

If the social gathering involves getting in the way of everyone else on the road then yes ofcourse
it's selfish. Isn't that what selfish means...indulging your own pleasure at someone else's expense?
I wasn't singling out cyclists. As I pointed out in my other post I think it's quite sad that people
can't show a bit more consideration for others in all walks of life.

Personally though, since I don't usually drive myself I'm glad they're on the road and not out in
the woods with me :-)

"It's not deliberate so it's unavoidable"? Eh? Would you apply the same reasoning to traffic
accidents? "I wasn't _trying_ to run him down, so it's just bad luck and I should not be held
responsible".

Lots of motorists choose to commute to work at roughly the same time as each other, instead of
sensibly staggering their start times. To compound this selfish behaviour, many of them make these
journeys in cars containing no other passengers, so each of them takes up probably six or eight
times as much road space as they would do in a more sensible vehicle.

No, I think most of them commute to work at the times dictated by their employers and also
probably start and finish their journeys at different points but do come across other motorists
during their journey.

And before you have a go at me I did get our working hours changed to avoid this problem as
commuting by car was becoming a nightmare. (I need the car for work otherwise would prefer to cycle,
certainly at this time of year. Yes, I could use a pool car but my wages wouldn't increase to
reflect the loss of amenity of losing a company car and also despite reasonable security measures it
is not possible to leave anything at work due to vandals, certainly not vehicles). My wife and I
also chose to live somewhere convenient for buses with good facilities within easy walking and
cycling distances, this option is not available to all.

However, I'm blowed if I can understand how other people can sit in long jams twice a day but I'm
sure they can justify it ;-)
