OK but the rest of it; look at his other products, would you buy a bike
with the same brand name as a cordless drill/whatever. Can't believe
they are fetching nearly 200, and it hasn't even finished yet. The
other Qentis one is pure 1970's.

Just because someone on ebay claims the junk they're offloading 'retails
for [censored] pounds' doesn't mean they've ever sold one at that price or
that it would represent any sort of value for money at that price. It's

Lance Armstrong uses a frame shifter on one of his race bikes
(hillclimb, I think). It's lighter and mechanically less complex.
There's nothing wrong with frame shifters. AIUI, the fashion for STIs
and Ergos largely comes from the fact that if you drop your hand to the
down tube everyone else in the peloton can see you're about to change
gear, and so has an extra bit of time to react when you're trying to
make a break.

I am more cynical. STis and ergos were invented to sell more brake and
gear controls IMO. DT levers hardly ever get broken, can't sell many of
them. Make combined units and put them in a position to get damaged in
every crash. Ker-ching.

Have you ever compared a sprint finish using STI versus using DT
shifters? There's your reason for STI - you can't sprint at 100% and
then change up with DT shifters.
