Not sure if this is the right group to post in but thought I'd ask
anyway. I keep getting terrible pain in the back of my neck whenever I
have to stand for a long period of time, usually for an hour or more
and this pain lingers for days. I've been lifting for years and have
always had this problem. Could it be that I need to strengthen my neck
or upper back or is this problem completely unrelated or fixable
through weight traning? Any suggestions on what I should try or other
places to look for more info?
Thanks..

Thanks..Visit http://www.optp.com and search on "McKenzie." Robin McKenzie is
the author of a book entitled, "Treat Your Own Neck." The contents of
this book were also integrated with those of "Treat Your Own Back" into
a new book called, "Seven Steps To A Pain Free Life" or something like
that - I'm not sure of the title of the new book. Regardless, any of
these books is worth its weight in gold, so get one, read, and it'll
give you ideas about what's causing your problems as well as simple
exercises to do to improve the way things line up in your neck.In the meantime, try - very gently - laying face up on a bench and
letting your head hang off the end. Don't let it just drop, keep things
under control at all times, don't hold the most extreme position for
more than a few seconds, and see if it helps you.See also "Super Joints" and "Relax Into Stretch" by Pavel Tsatsouline,
links at http://www.kbnj.com/sj.htm and http://www.kbnj.com/ris.htm,
respectively, books about joint health and flexibility, respectively.
