  1. About 4 weeks ago I pulled my traps and rhomboids on the left side while
doing a seated cable row. Not sure how it happened as I hadn't
increased the weight for a week. Anyway, even with physiotherapy 2X per
week for the last 3 weeks, I'm still having a lot of trouble. My
therapist doesn't want me doing ANY exercise for fear that I might
strain these muscles again (just by tensing during a curl or leg press
even) and set back any progress. As it doesn't seem as though I am
making any progress anyway, is there anything I can do to help things
along? I'm really missing my morning workouts, but I can barely get out
of bed some days because of the pain. Could I have torn something
instead of just pulling? Any help is appreciated.

If you're still in that much pain after 4 weeks, I'd consider getting a
second opinion. Yes, you certainly *could* have torn instead of strained.
That is assuming you aren't doing anything stupid like trying to workout
    around the injury.

I have been doing some cardio on a recumbant bike as well as some minor
abs and leg work, but have not been working anything else.

If its that painful, I'd stick to just the bike!
    A rest isn't a bad thing!

I know, but I'm on an 800 cal/day deficit fat loss diet and I'd really
like to maintain as much lean mass as possible. Should I kill the diet
while rehabing and just go for maintenance for now?

Recovery and calorie deficit together sound a little retarded to me.

Yah...I suppose. Hey... this is all new to me. I've never really been
on a fitness program before. All I knew was to cut calories to create a
deficit and do aerobic and strength training to aid in fat loss and lean
mass retention. Once at desired bf level, I could start building
muscle. No one ever told me what to do if I suffered an injury part way
through, but now that I think about it, you're right. That's probably
why I'm not recovering.... Thanks for the eye opener.
