any bowflex users out there? if so i would like to start a newsgroup to exchange info. i use one about 6 mos out of the year at a second home where there is no gym. it does a good job for me in that situation.
I have one and I feel that it is a valid way to put on some muscle, but you can build a cheaper home gym with a rack and free weights which will be better and cheaper in the long run. If I had my $1000 back I would buy a cage, bench, and some weights. If I didn't have the room, I would join a gym that had free weights. If I didn't have a gym near home and lived in an apartment, I would buy the Bowflex or the flavor of the day again.
Buying a bowflex is very much like getting satellite Internet IMHO. Only buy one if that is your only option. It's not worthless, but it is overpriced and limited in scope.
finally, some intelligent critiques. it has shortcomings compared to a gym and many free weights, granted. it does do a good job in cable-type exercises. however, i didn't ask for opinions since i have had over fifty years experience, seeing the evolution of weight training devices. what i did ask for was if there were any bowflex users that would like to start a newsgroup in order to compare notes. so, after this much time, the indications are that it apparently won't happen.

No one said it was not better then nothing, but a free weight set up is less expensive and will be more effective.

None of which are superior to a basic free weight set up, a flat bench, and a cage of some sort.

Not on this news group no. Perhaps a news group with more people that buy into the goofy Bowflex hype.
